Honda Odyssey Earns National Recognition for Top Safety Marks
Honda is always working to provide drivers with a safe, more comfortable drive. In recent model year, the marque has moved to introduce its Honda Sensing Technology to most of its model lineup. According to Honda, there are over half a million vehicles in the U.S. alone equipped with this dynamic safety technology. Currently, the technology is available on the Civic, Fit, HR-V, CR-V, Pilot, Fit, Clarity series and the 2018 Odyssey.
The idea behind the minivan is a simple one; a spacious and safe vehicle that allows you to transport your entire family while still retaining a good amount of cargo space. The 2018 Honda Odyssey has been earning praise not only for its design, but also for its overall user experience. In fact, the Odyssey was recently awarded a 2017 Wards 10 Best UX Award from WardsAuto for enhancing user experience with “easy-to-use” technology. Most recently, the Honda Odyssey was recognized for its outstanding safety record by both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to Honda, the 2018 edition of the popular minivan was acknowledged by the IIHS with a 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating, their highest available rating. To earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating, the vehicle had to receive optimal scores on crashworthiness test ratings across the board. The IIHS cited two specific additions for the 2018 model year that helped it to earn the high safety distinction: the introduction of the Honda Sensing package and LED headlights. The Honda Sensing Suite, now standard on EX and above trims, includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation System and more. Two of the vehicle trims include a high-beam assist feature that automatically switches between high beams and low beams depending on the presence of other vehicles on the road.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Association awarded the minivan a five-star overall vehicle score with their New Car Assessment Program by scoring fives (the highest possible score) in frontal and side crash tests for driver and passengers.
